Instructors

Dr. Rick J Scavetta

Dr. Rick J Scavetta trained as a biologist specializing in evolutionary genetics and speciation. In 2012, focusing on his strengths and passions, he shifted careers to become a small-group instructor, independent data scientist, entrepreneur and content developer. Operating as Scavetta Academy, Dr Scavetta has a close and recurring presence at primary research institutes all over Germany, including many Max Planck Institutes and Excellence Clusters. As one of the first external trainers at DataCamp, Dr Scavetta's courses on Data Visualization have been taken by over 200,000 students since 2016. He’s also contributed to advanced data science courses exclusive to O’Reilly's Live Online Training platform as well as the Deep Learning with R in Motion LiveVideo course with Manning. In 2020, Dr Scavetta began consulting Misk Academy (currently Misk Skills) on the development of training programs in digital skills, such as data science. He has been the primary in house data science instructor since late 2020 and will return for the 2022 sessions. In 2021, Dr Scavetta co-authored the O'Reilly title Python & R for the Modern Data Scientist, and in 2022 he secured support from Taylor & Francis, home of the CRC Press imprint, to work on a new title drawing on his unique background and perspectives.
